Nottingham Refugee Forum’s Initial Accommodation Outreach Project has been making great progress in supporting asylum seekers in initial accommodation sites across our region. Our Outreach Worker Yazdan has provided an update on what he’s been up to over the last few months.
“This month we’ve seen 104 clients actively engaging with our services, helping us make huge strides in our mission to empower those in need.
Our newly launched workshop series kicked off with a session tailored for Farsi speakers, focusing on Universal Credit and housing, helping to equip our clients with vital knowledge and skills.
In an exciting development, we’ve partnered with The Salvation Army to start an English Conversation Group from 11 March. This initiative aims to enhance our clients’ language abilities, confidence, and cultural understanding.
Our collaboration with Nottingham Talking Therapists continues to enrich our service offerings, further evidencing our dedication to meeting our clients’ diverse needs.
Our partnership with Nottingham Police has introduced workshops on critical topics such as the Human Rights Act and antisocial behaviour, highlighting our commitment to addressing our clients’ multifaceted challenges.
Despite the unexpected early closure of the one of the accommodation sites, our team worked tirelessly with Nottingham City Council to advocate for our clients’ rights and well-being, ensuring minimal disruption to their lives”.
