THE WOMEN'S GROUP

What we do

The Women’s Group at Refugee Forum has been operating since March, 2007 and is a focal point for refugee and asylum seeker women to meet, make new friends, share skills and provide mutual support in a safe and welcoming environment. We now meet at Playworks, just down the road from the Refugee Forum (see map) on Fridays between 10am and 2pm. There’s usually a female adviser on hand at the Forum to help out with any questions or problems, and members of the group usually take turns to cook food for each other. Recent activities include bellydancing, silk-painting, yoga, a beauty session, a trip to the cinema and a trip to Wheelgate Adventure Park. The Group also hope to arrange some picnics and day-trips for the summer!

Members of the group have come from Ghana, Cameroon, Congo, Eritrea, Iraq, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Ethiopia, Turkey, Libya and Pakistan. Women are always welcome to come along to the group and meet new people! There is a crèche which is open to all, so feel free to bring the kids!

“The Women’s Group has helped us to get to know each other and learn about other cultures. We help each other emotionally and respect each other.” - Ruth
